Isla Nevis (or Nieves in Spanish), is an island located in the Lesser Antilles, in the Caribbean. Politically it is integrated into the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis (St. Kitts and Nevis), although it has laws and an autonomous parliament. Discovered by Christopher Columbus on his second trip to America, he called the largest island San Cristóbal in honor of the legendary martyr and Nieves the second for the whiteness of its summit, although it is actually due to the presence of clouds that covered the mountain .

About it

It is the smallest country in the Americas, both in size and population, since I speak of an area of 26.6 square kilometers and some 53 thousand inhabitants, according to figures from the World Bank. Despite its size, it is considered one of the safest sites for the protection of its assets.

Nieves is located 200 km southeast of Puerto Rico, which is an important entry point to the Caribbean and receives direct flights from many sites in the US. There are regular flights from San Juan from Puerto Rico to Nieves and also from Antigua, San Martin and San Cristobal. In addition, there are weekly direct flights to San Cristobal from the USA. so if you travel through San Cristobal, you also have the option of traveling by ferry to Nieves.

The history

Even being discovered by Columbus, was later colonized by the British and obtained its independence in 1983 with San Cristobal, with which federó. The country is a member of the Commonwealth, so its political and legal system is a copy of the British, being the Queen of England the Head of State. However, the modern legislation of Nieves also introduces some external elements such as the existence of the Limited Liability Company (LLC) – Limited Liability Company, originating in the United States.

When it started

Nieves began operating as an offshore financial center in 1984 and soon acquired good reputation, due to its strong privacy laws, excellent asset protection and its limited involvement in money laundering operations. It also has a small banking sector in size, but well established and solvent.

There are strict confidentiality laws that prohibit any disclosure of bank secrecy, except by court order. It enjoys a good reputation for financial privacy and the protection of its assets. Together with Panama and San Vicente, San Cristobal and Nieves are recognized for their high level of protection of offshore assets of both local and foreign investors.

It should be noted that St. Kitts and Nevis are no longer listed as tax havens and have been eliminated from the “gray list” of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Neither Nieves companies are on the “black list” of the Spanish Treasury. However, it is still considered a tax haven by the national laws of some countries.
